This new and exciting thematic route for families, featuring an illustrated booklet, will introduce both adults and children to the story of the Blue Crow, the guardian of the mountain who lost a magic word that once illuminated the Dolomites. It's a self-guided activity which consists in a simple walk around the flat Ciampedie valley, accessible either from Pera by chairlift or from Vigo by cable car.
The Catinaccio Rosengarten hiking area boasts a rich calendar of weekly activities: easy walks suitable for the little ones to discover mountain pastures or marmots, moderately difficult hikes with a mountain guide, moments of well-being at high altitude followed by delicious brunches in mountain huts, and even legendary Dolomite treks with alpacas!

With the two chairlifts from Pera or by taking the cable car from Vigo, you can reach Pian Pecei. From here, the forest path continues almost flat to Gardeccia, a basin at the foot of the impressive Catinaccio Group. Several refreshment points are available: Rifugio Gardeccia, Rifugio Stella Alpina Spiz Piaz, Baita Enrosadira and Malga Couler. From here, you can reach various other mountain huts or return along the same route.
The forest path and The trail of legends: The route follows trail no. 540 Ciampedie – Gardeccia on the outward leg, one of the most popular and well-loved trails in summer. It is a high-altitude route that can also be covered with a stroller. Along the way, there are numerous information points about high-mountain nature (vegetation, water, rocks, tree roots, underground life, air, the age of trees, etc.). On the return, you can make a detour towards Malga Couler to join the Legends Trail, along which information panels present summaries of the main legends set in the Catinaccio mountains and linked to Ladin tradition.
The ‘Vial de le Feide’ (sheep path in Ladin language) was historically used by shepherds to accompany their flocks in search of fresh grass. Today, it is a route that offers a perfect combination of history, culture and adventure, ideal for exploring the wonders of the Dolomites in an immersive way. It is a route of medium difficulty, with open views. From Ciampedie, the route crosses the green meadows of Pra Martin, leading to the Roda di Vael and Baita Marino Pederiva mountain huts. The return journey is possible via Malga Vael along the Alta Via dei Fassani, which leads back to Ciampedie.
From the Roda di Vael and Baita Marino Pederiva mountain huts you can also reach the bronze eagle: a monument dedicated to Theodor Christomannos, a pioneer of tourism in this area, set in a panoramic position.
In addition to easier walks, the Catinaccio Rosengarten also offers the opportunity to enjoy panoramic hikes at higher altitudes and reach the many mountain huts in the area, where it is also possible to stay overnight (reservation required). From Gardeccia, you can hike up to the Vajolet and Preuss huts and continue towards the Re Alberto and Santner huts. Another option is the Principe mountain refuge, with the possibility to continue on to the Rifugio Bergamo or Rifugio Antermoia.
The Antermoia circuit: a magnificent circular route offering spectacular views typical of the Dolomites. Starting from Pera or Vigo, you reach Gardeccia and then climb up to Vajolet, Passo Principe and Passo Antermoia. From here, you descend to Lake Antermoia, a small alpine jewel which, thanks to its reflective surface, beautifully frames the surrounding peaks. There are various routes for the return journey: Val Duron, Val Udai and Val di Dona. Plan your return to Pera or Vigo carefully. This itinerary can be split into two days with an evocative overnight stay in a mountain refuge.
